Diving medicine/fitness to dive examination
So that you can dive healthfully again
Diving offers fascinating insight into the undersea world and is becoming more and more popular. A regular examination by a diving medical physician is recommended or required by many diving schools so that you do not take a risk with your health. The diving certificate based on the guidelines of the GTÜM (Gesellschaft für Tauch- und Überdruckmedizin e.V. [Society for Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine, registered association]) is recognized by the International Diving Associations (CMAS, PADI). The GTÜM here recommends a certificate validity of three years up to age 40, and thereafter one year.
Dr. Wörenkämper is an approved diving medical physician (GTÜM I). The examination is done according to the standards of the Society for Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine (GTÜM). You will have an individual consultation, especially if you have pre-existing diseases. We may recommend additional examinations by a specialist colleague in another department. Safety is our first priority. If concerns regarding low-risk diving emerge during the examination, it may be necessary to issue a fitness to dive certificate with restrictions, or not to issue one at all. We consider ourselves responsible for you and your diving partner in this regard.
If you are a more ambitious diver, we also offer expanded tests in the area of blood lactate diagnostics and muscle function diagnostics.
If you want an appointment for a fitness to dive examination, please indicate this request when scheduling an appointment. We will then send you an appropriate questionnaire in advance to make the whole process more convenient for you.
The fitness to dive examination is not reimbursed by many health plans. Please find out about cost reimbursement options ahead of time.
